UPDATE: One dead after car and truck crash in Ellendale

ELLENDALE, Del. - A crash involving a car and a truck remains under investigation, after a Georgetown man has died from injuries he sustained from the crash, in Ellendale.

Delaware State Police say on Friday, around 11:06 AM, 41-year-old Sven Conquest, of Georgetown, was driving a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica westbound on Hummingbird Road, entering the intersection at Holly Tree Road, in Sussex County. Authorities say a 49-year-old man was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Hummingbird Road approaching the same intersection. According to the report, as the two vehicles crossed, Conquest lost control of the Chrysler and went off the north side of the roadway, before coming back onto the roadway and swerving directly into the path of the truck.

Authorities say the 49-year-old pickup truck driver tried to swerve to the right, but the front right side of the car struck the front center of the truck, near the south edge of the roadway. At the point of collision, both vehicles apparently were forced off the roadway and came to a stop.

According the report, Conquest was airlifted by Delaware State Police Aviation(Trooper 2) to Christiana Medical Center and admitted for serious injuries. Officials say on Saturday, the 41-year-old died from injuries he sustained during the crash.

The driver of the truck was apparently taken to Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital (MMH) where he was treated and released with non-life threatening injuries. Troopers say a 55-year-old passenger in the truck was also treated and released from MMH with non-life threatening injuries.

DSP reports that all three individuals were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

This crash remains under investigation by the DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit. Authorities say it is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors on behalf of Conquest..  No charges have been filed.

Holly Tree Road at Hummingbird Road was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
