SELBYVILLE, Del. - Strawberry picking season appears to have started a little earlier for some farms on Delmarva this spring thanks to recent weather patterns.
At Magee Farms in Selbyville, strawberry picking season normally kicks off around Mother's Day; however, they started about a week ago.
Ellen Magee of Magee Farms warmer temperatures from few weeks back helped, but the slightly below average temperatures we're seeing this week are allowing the berries to take their time ripening.
The season generally lasts for about five or six weeks.
"When it gets real hot and humid, strawberries are like...nope, I'm done I don't like this anymore. The next thing that's ready, that's blueberries," explains Magee.
Magee Farm's strawberry festival is scheduled for May 20 at their Lewes location.
