MILFORD, Del. - Two people are facing charges including drug offenses, after police say they were arrested during the search for a wanted man, in Milford.
The Milford Police Department says on Wednesday, around 10:20 AM, their drug unit and the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force completed the search for a wanted man at an apartment in the Brightway Commons apartment complex, in Milford. Police say their investigation led to the apartment complex as the location of 35-year-old Maurice James, of Milford. James was apparently wanted on by the Justice of the Peace Court #14, Kent County Superior Court, Sussex County Family Court, Sussex County Court of Common Pleas and by the Milford Police Department for two separate cases.
According to the report, the first warrant was obtained after James fled from a vehicle on foot, after being stop by a Milford Officer in 2014. The second warrant was apparently related to a January 2015 assault. Authorities report that James was taken into custody and officers found crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
Milford PD says 50-year-old Woodrow Lane, of Milford, was also contacted while James was being taken into custody. Law enforcement reportedly found lane to be in possession of a controlled substance.
Authorities report that James was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, assault third degree, offensive touching, and resisting arrest. The 35-year-old's bail was set at $5,000 secured for the cases associated with the Milford Police warrants, $33,000 cash only for the Sussex Family Court warrants, $500 for the Justice of the Peace Court #14 warrants, $170 cash only for the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas warrants, and $2,500 secured for the Kent County Superior Court warrants.
James was later turned over to the Sussex Correctional Institution.
Lane was charged with possession of a controlled substance and is scheduled to appear at the Justice of the Peace Court 6 in January for arraignment.
James is apparently scheduled to appear at the Kent County Court of Common Pleas on December 22.
