Promotion draws visitors to Bethany during offseason

BETHANY BEACH, Del. - Bethany Beach is attracting new visitors this December with its Weekend Wonderland in Bethany promotion.

The three weekend event that concluded Saturday night is intended to attract visitors during the offseason to take part in holiday festivities and take advantage of local tax-free shopping.

Activities include an Elf on a Shelf scavenger hunt with local businesses, ole' Saint Nick himself, and caroling at the Christmas tree on the bandstand.

Visitors tell 47ABC they were attracted to Bethany by the promotion.

"Just the activities for the family and for my grandson to do, we were doing the Elf on a Shelf bingo earlier, he's taking a break now, and seeing Santa, and doing the Christmas caroling tonight around the tree," said Karen Schmehl, a Hershey, Pa. resident who adds she plans to return in the summer.

Weekend Wonderland is put on by the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce.

Their next big offseason event is their Inaugural Fire and Ice Festival, including winter festivities like an ice skating rink on January 26.
