DEWEY BEACH, Del. - The Delaware State Police are currently investigating an attempted robbery of a gas station that occurred Friday evening.
Police say the preliminary investigation has determined that the incident occurred on Friday at approximately 6:58 p.m., as two men wearing masks entered the Valero Gas Station simultaneously through two different public entrances, located at 20880 Coastal Highway.
Upon entering the store, police say one of the men proceeded directly toward the rear of the front counter, displaying a sharp object. At this time, the suspect noticed that the store clerk was in the rear of the store. Police say the suspect then proceeded to walk towards the back of the store to confront that clerk.
The store clerk was immediately able to hide in a storage closet. The suspect alerted the other suspect that had entered the store with him, and both men exited the store from the same doors from which they entered. The store clerk was not injured during this incident.
Police say the first male suspect was described as black male, 5'9"-5'10" tall, medium build, wearing dark clothing, light colored shoes, white mask, round fisherman style hat, light colored gloves, and displaying a sharp instrument.
Police say the second suspect was described as a large frame male, unknown race, wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt , dark colored pants and shoes, light colored gloves, white mask, with a dread hair style, and displaying a sharp instrument.
Surveillance photos of the two suspects have been obtained.
