MILTON, Del. - While many students stress and cram for an exam or final project only to be seen by their instructor or class, communication students at Del Tech convened at the Milton Theater for a showcase of the best work produced by students throughout the year.
The exhibit includes submissions from different medias such as videography, photography, creative writing, audio and graphic design.
Rob Rector, Department Chair, says he has seen a total change among students this time of year thanks to this annual event.
"I see this energy in them that usually you don't see at this time in the semester. As an instructor, this is normally 'when can I get my finals done and get on with summer.' And now they seem psyched about doing projects for the college."
Students seem to agree with that sentiment.
"This is a really important event for the students to express their work and show their skills and all the things that we've learned in the program, and how it's going to be successful in our future career," said senior communications major Mary Kate Bennett.
If this was a final (project) I would've taken it seriously. But because this will be broadcast in front of the community, I obviously worked way harder than I could have on this just to make sure that it's pitch perfect," said Willie Brown, creator of the trailer for 'Fixing Nixon.' "So everyone can see the talent I have and what can really result through hard work and dedication."
Rector says the event gives the students a finish line to strive for and creates friendly creative competition because the exhibit is only for, as he puts it, the best of the best. He adds the venue supplied by the Milton Theater adds to the prestige of the exhibit.
"It ups the ante. It steps it up a notch, so it's not just a school event."
Added to the event this year was a virtual reality station. Instructors trained themselves to train students on the new 'budding technology' they say will give graduates a step up on competition.
