Lenita Wesson

Greetings Delmarva! Born and raised in Pensacola, Florida as the youngest of six, I've always enjoyed being near the water. My new home on the Eastern Shore couldn't be a better fit! Join me as I anchor the 12:30 weekday newscast and co-anchor the 47 ABC News Hour weekdays from 5:30PM-6:30PM.
I started in broadcast journalism more than a decade ago while in school in Tallahassee at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University. I worked as a production assistant and assistant producer while also doing some on-air community calendar pieces at the local CBS affiliate, WCTV. As a student journalist, I covered the 2000 Presidential election where the Florida recount became synonymous with the infamous hanging chad. After graduating from FAMU with a Broadcast Journalism degree, I crossed the railroad tracks and went to work at the local ABC affiliate, WTXL, as a one man band reporter. During my tenure at that station, I worked as a reporter and covered the monumental right to life case of Terri Schiavo and the 2008 Presidential election which resulted in this country's first African-American president. I was also a producer, host and anchor. Aside from the big national stories, I was most grateful to be a part of the everyday lives of various communities of people. Being in a college town allowed me to accomplish another one of my biggest joys... mentoring college students at both the station and local universities.
Somewhere between working full time and enjoying life, I met and married my wonderful and brilliant husband, Dr. G. Dale Wesson, and together we have two daughters, Galen and Grace. We eventually relocated to Columbia South Carolina. While enjoying the coast and college football, I started a mommy blog called "My Charmed Life". I was able to write about the joys and difficulties of motherhood and... life. I also did some freelance writing for "Gospel Truth Magazine" and some freelance producing for "Generation NeXt: Life and Politics with Chuck Hobbs", a local Tallahassee, Fl news show.
Fast forward a few years and a lifetime of experiences later, and the Wessons are now living in and enjoying Delmarva. I remember writing in my high school memory book that I wanted to be doing Peter Jennings' job in 10 years. Well, I am, and I couldn't be more content! My work is a definite "get to"!
Of course when there is down time, I enjoy spending it with my family, traveling, listening to live music, photography, sitting on the beach, writing and reading!
