SALISBURY, MD - Another murder in Salisbury, the second in two weeks. This time a man was gunned down - and it happened just a block away from the other crime. 47 ABC's Erica Murphy is following the latest developments in this tragedy.
There are several similarities aside from geography in this case. In both cases -- the victim is a male in his early 30's. In both cases, the men were found outside.
State Police have taken over the investigation and are releasing the victim's name. He's being identified as 31 year-old Arthur Smith.
10 o'clock Monday night. Salisbury residents hear gun fire and call police.
"I opened my blinds up and I saw the man standing over top with his gun pointing downward at an individual."
Moments later - they arrive to find the body of Arthur Smith - motionless in the 800 block of Gettysburg Avenue.
It was quartered off there from Gettysburg over across the street and this was actually opened but... there
were two armed .. rifled policemen walking down there."
Many who live here say they are concerned - this happened close to home - but so far they are satisfied with how police are handling the case.
" I felt real good about the police presence. They spent a lot of time and a lot of manpower you know and they stayed late. It was after midnight and they still had it yellow-taped off."
One resident, Ray Szmajda says officers were meticulously searching the area for suspects.
And many of the men and women living in this neighborhood - took steps to help investigators find the clues they need to help solve the case.
"I turned my light on in the back yard so nobody would be hiding but I didn't know anything about it. It must have happened an hour or two earlier."
One resident , who declined to go on camera, tells 47 ABC that this crime makes him uneasy and it might be time to put a *for sale* sign up in his yard.
The victim reportedly died on the way to the hospital.
One new detail police are releasing today is that they think more than one person may be involved in this shooting death.
This latest murder happened just walking distance from Prince Street Elementary School.
The Crime Solvers of the Lower Eastern Shore are offering a 25-hundred dollar reward for tips leading to an arrest in the case.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Salisbury Police at 410-548-3165 or the Maryland State Police at 410-749-3161.
