"Creating Comics!" "Creating Comics!"

SALISBURY, Md. - The PLB Comics team and the Wicomico Public Library present: Creating Comics! Feb. 26 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. at the Wicomico Public Library, Centre Branch.

This informative event will feature the PLB team sharing in the process of comic book creation. From inception to completion, PLB's writers and artists will guide attendees through the course of creating their very own comic books. Crafting riveting stories, laying out pages, drawing, inking and lettering will all be touched on. This free event is open to both children and adults who have an interest in creating comics, graphic novels or sequential art of any kind.

PLB Comics believes that comic books are a perfect gateway for young people to get involved in reading, art and storytelling in a highly accessible way. Progressive educators have used comic books and sequential art as teaching tools for decades to spectacular effect. Seeing this potential the comic book industry has been involved in literacy and public service campaigns worldwide, donating immeasurable amounts of materials and supporting events aimed at increasing literacy and appreciation of the arts.

Though a small publisher, PLB Comics wants to give back to their community the best way they know how, though teaching their trade to others. Not only does PLB feel that comic book creation is a great way to bring art to youth, but also to instill a passion for literature and writing and an overarching drive for creativity. The comic book industry has moved from being aimed primarily at children to focus on more of a mature audience. This has created the undesired effect of losing the next generation of comic book fans and creators, as most adults who read and are involved in comics today started reading them as children. PLB Comics would like to bring young people back to the table by showing them that they can not only passively read finished comic books, but also go out and create their own, and perhaps someday even have them published.
