EASTON, Md. (AP) - Maryland lawmakers say they want answers by
Monday from the U.S. Postal Service about its plans for an Easton
processing center.
Sens. Barbara Mikulski and Benjamin Cardin and Rep. Frank
Kratovil say they will file Freedom of Information Act requests or
ask the Senate Government Affairs Committee to intervene if the
information isn't received by Monday. The lawmakers say proposed
cuts could significantly affect a half million Eastern Shore
residents.
The deadline comes a day before the Postal Service is to hold a
public hearing on the proposed cuts to the Easton Processing and
Distribution Facility. Mikulski and Cardin had asked for three more
hearings on the Eastern Shore.
The Postal Service has proposed cutting 54 of the 131 jobs at
the facility.
