BETHANY BEACH, Del. - Residents and visitors to the coast of Delaware had a great day to hit the beaches and boardwalks on the first day of spring.
Visitors gathered up their families, set up their towels on the beach and were checking out the boardwalk businesses as temperatures approached 70 degrees at the coast. A couple of brave souls even ventured into the 43-degree water.
"It's actually pretty pleasant," said Bethany Beach resident Ken Savage, who was paddle-boarding in the surf. "It's a good day to jump in. I wouldn't recommend long swims, but it's a good day to jump in and cool down for sure." Savage was thrilled to be out in the warm sun after the long, hard winter.
With the exception of some rain on Monday, the well-above average temperatures are expected to continue through much of next week.
